As you grow a bun in your oven, it’s very important to take care of your oral health. If you don’t, many dental problems could arise and your smile could be in jeopardy. There are many dental issues to look out for while you are pregnant, including:
Pregnancy Gingivitis
Because of the hormonal changes you have during pregnancy, your chances of developing gingivitis increase. Gingivitis is a dangerous disease that causes swelling and tenderness in the gums. It can also make the gums bleed every time you brush and floss your teeth. If the condition is left untreated, it can develop into more serious forms of the disease and it can completely destroy your smile.
Tooth Decay
Pregnant women have an increased risk of tooth decay, mostly because of the consumption of carbohydrates and the frequent vomiting from morning sickness. It’s very important to keep up on oral hygiene so you can prevent tooth decay as much as possible.
Pregnancy Tumors
For some women, overgrowths appear on the gums and those overgrowths are known as pregnancy tumors. These tumors are not cancerous nor dangerous. They generally form because of excess plaque and they usually swell between the teeth. They can bleed very easily and they have a red, raspberry-like appearance. They should disappear once the baby is born.
